Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Shaft (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaique Mateus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Shaft has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Shaft! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kaique Mateus! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mateus is looking to take this fight into the clinch. John Shaft seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A combination from Shaft does no damage. Mateus misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Shaft scores a takedown into full mount! Shaft avoids the attempt from Mateus to control. Mateus is looking to improve his position but Shaft isn't that keen on the idea. Shaft working for a submission but Mateus is keeping him at bay. Shaft postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mateus looks a forlorn figure.
Mateus manages to regain half guard. Good work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mateus is pressing down on Shaft's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Shaft pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mateus is keeping the position for now. Mateus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Mateus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shaft is looking to escape. Mateus is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mateus wants to free his trapped foot but Shaft is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Shaft gets back to full guard.
Shaft looking for a sweep. Not yet Shaft, not yet. Mateus postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Shaft is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mateus, into his guard. Mateus looks gassed! Shaft throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mateus works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mateus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shaft gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Shaft postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shaft lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Mateus working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Shaft has passed into half guard!
Ground and pound from Shaft. Mateus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mateus trying to control from the bottom.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shaft connects with a nice short shot to Mateus's temple. Mateus tries to get to full guard but Shaft has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shaft is nestled in close to Mateus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Shaft decides to stand and escape the position. A head kick by Shaft - that's a beauty! Mateus is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Shaft can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). John Shaft!
