PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marco Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Panther (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Marco Miller has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Marco Miller seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marco Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Panther!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller wants to clinch.

Miller rushes Panther and presses him up against the cage.

Panther manages to pull guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Miller wants to stand and escape but instead Panther has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Panther postures up and lands a big shot to Miller's brow.
Panther with a flurry of punches that miss.
Panther trying to stand up but can't free himself from Miller's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Panther tries to free his leg and advance position but Miller is retaining full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Miller is on top in guard.
Panther has a closed guard, preventing Miller from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Marco Miller.

Panther is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Miller has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Panther dodges the ground and pound from Miller.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Panther can do anything to dispel that myth.
Miller prevents Panther from escaping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Miller wants to clinch up but Panther keeps it at a distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Panther scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Panther has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Panther swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Miller looks for a takedown but Panther sprawls well.

Panther feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Miller lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Panther!

and Miller counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Panther darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Panther tries to pass to full mount but Miller defends it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Miller is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Panther's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Panther's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Panther shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Miller napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Panther is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Miller is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Panther wants to control but Miller is keeping him busy.

You can see the frustration on Miller's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The strikes coming from Panther are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Panther tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Panther has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ground and pound from Panther seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Panther tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Panther decides to stand back up. Panther steps back and let's Miller get back to his feet.
James Panther seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Panther avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Miller gets caught napping as Panther dives in and scores a takedown. Miller manages to retain guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James Panther showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Miller is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Panther's half guard.

Panther is staying active underneath Miller, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Panther has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Miller is on him like a limpet, forcing Panther back against the cage.

Panther has clasped his hands together around Miller's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Panther goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Miller rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Panther's guard! Nice work there by Miller!

Miller wants to stand but Panther is controlling his posture from full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Marco Miller wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Panther closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Panther lands in his opponent's guard.

Miller utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

James Panther comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Panther winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
