Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Retsu Kaioh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Eirik Rivfader! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rivfader shoots in looking for a takedown. Kaioh tries to sprawl out of it but Rivfader keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kaioh manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Rivfader misses with a head kick.
Rivfader has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rivfader stalls. Rivfader tries to stall but Kaioh uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Rivfader tries to pull guard but Kaioh won't allow it.
Kaioh lands an elbow inside.
It looks like Eirik Rivfader has been cut. Kaioh creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Kaioh lands an elbow that stopped Rivfader in his tracks for a moment. A short right from Kaioh on the inside. Rivfader tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Retsu Kaioh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eirik Rivfader. Kaioh gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Kaioh scores with a shoulder strike. Kaioh with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kaioh looking to throw knees to the head but Rivfader is blocking nicely.
Kaioh lands a damaging elbow. We've been informed that Rivfader has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kaioh lands a knee to the head.
Kaioh lands an elbow inside. Kaioh gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Kaioh lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Rivfader pulls guard effortlessly. Kaioh wanted to stand there but Rivfader had control of the position. Kaioh gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Kaioh lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kaioh throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kaioh scores with a body shot.
Retsu Kaioh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kaioh tries a head kick but it misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivfader tries for a takedown but Kaioh sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Kaioh lands a jab to Rivfader's midsection. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rivfader crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kaioh - the referee stops the clock and Rivfader gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kaioh. Rivfader manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Nice sprawl there from Kaioh as Rivfader shoots in. Rivfader looks winded! Rivfader has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rivfader there as he acknowledges the shot. Rivfader changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaioh tries to avoid it but Rivfader manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaioh to the ground. Kaioh escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nice takedown defense from Kaioh. No joy for Rivfader on that attempt. Rivfader closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kaioh circles away. Kaioh misses with a double jab.
Rivfader fails to land the takedown. Kaioh lands with a cross. Kaioh misses with a series of wild punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. No luck for Rivfader with that takedown attempt. Kaioh turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Kaioh's corner calls for a 1-2. Kaioh obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Rivfader takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Kaioh connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Kaioh throws a head kick that half lands.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kaioh lands a big right hand that sends Rivfader crashing to the mat! Kaioh stays standing though and waves Rivfader back to his feet!
Rivfader is rocked! Kaioh lands an uppercut, right on the button! Rivfader tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Retsu Kaioh! During a confident post fight interview, Retsu Kaioh thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
