Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tod Riggs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Janiedson Tavarez! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tavarez has his takedown stuffed and Riggs holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Tavarez breaks from the clinch.
Tavarez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Riggs counters by moving into the clinch. Tavarez avoiding damage.
Tavarez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Riggs smiles and moves away.
Tod Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Janiedson Tavarez. Riggs closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tavarez circles away. Tavarez misses with a takedown attempt and Riggs counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. No luck for Tavarez with that takedown attempt. Tavarez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Riggs. That did some damage!
That's one minute gone in the round. Riggs walks into a jab. Riggs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Riggs tries to clinch but Tavarez moves out of range. A combination from Tavarez does no damage. Riggs shoots in for a takedown but Tavarez shows good takedown defense. Riggs avoids the head kick by Tavarez.
Riggs wants to clinch up but Tavarez keeps it at a distance. Riggs pushes Tavarez up against the cage in a clinch. Riggs wants to break the clinch but can't.
Riggs misses with a knee to the head. Tavarez tries to score a body lock takedown but Riggs shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Tavarez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Riggs walks away with a smile on his face. Tavarez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riggs fails in his attempt to clinch. Riggs gets in close and instigates a clinch. Riggs tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Riggs lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Tavarez backwards. Tavarez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Riggs after a bit of a struggle. Tavarez wants a takedown but no success here.
Tavarez looks winded! Tavarez is trying to pull guard but Riggs turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tavarez tries to break the clinch but Riggs is controlling the position. Tavarez misses with a body punch.
Riggs working hard to break the clinch. Riggs is working for takedown but Tavarez is calmly controlling the position for now. Tavarez jumps guard but Riggs stands there with Tavarez around his waist. Tavarez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Riggs is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Riggs missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Tavarez is looking to sweep but instead, Riggs has passed into half guard.
Riggs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Riggs lands with a punch from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tavarez has hold of Riggs's hands but Riggs slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tod Riggs dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Riggs stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Riggs wants it to stay on the feet. Riggs drives through and clinches with Tavarez against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round. Riggs shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tavarez is trying to defend but Riggs finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Riggs missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Riggs lands strikes from half guard. Riggs is taking a breather. Tavarez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Riggs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Tavarez's head. Tavarez wants to control the action here but instead Riggs manages to pass to full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riggs scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Tavarez is breathing heavily. Riggs lands with some strikes. Tavarez is trying desperately to improve position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Riggs takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tavarez can't escape the position.
Riggs tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Tavarez wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Riggs controlling the pace for now. Tavarez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Riggs landing shots from mount. Tavarez wants to hold on but Riggs pushes him away. Riggs controlling from mount. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Riggs is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Tavarez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riggs gets in close and instigates a clinch. Riggs blocks a body shot from Tavarez. Tavarez manages to break the clinch.
Tavarez throws a head kick but Riggs moves out of range.
Tavarez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Riggs swivels and escapes. Tavarez moves into the clinch successfully.

Tavarez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Riggs just stands there and leans against the cage. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Riggs as Tavarez tries to tie him up. Tavarez is looking to take this one to the mat. Tod Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Janiedson Tavarez. Tavarez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tavarez tries to pull guard but Riggs holds him up against the cage and eventually Tavarez drops back down to his feet.

Nice sprawl there from Riggs as Tavarez shoots in. Riggs tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tavarez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Tavarez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Riggs defends it nicely. Excellent takedown into side control there by Riggs. Riggs cracks Tavarez with a big right hand but Tavarez just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riggs working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Riggs lands a few punches from side control. Riggs working the ground and pound from side control. Tavarez is trying to work for a sweep but Riggs has mounted him! Tavarez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Riggs with shots to the head and body - Tavarez looks very uncomfortable down there. Riggs looking to control and managing it successfully. Riggs is in the full mount, landing strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Riggs landing shots from mount. Riggs lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Riggs has hold of Tavarez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Tavarez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Tavarez is desperately trying to improve his position but Riggs has a good base and remains in mount. Riggs has control of Tavarez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tavarez regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Riggs lands with some strikes. Janiedson Tavarez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Tod Riggs is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Riggs tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that's the end of the fight! Tod Riggs showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Riggs, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
