Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Norbert Lopez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Jones! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Lopez which made him look bad. Jones throws a wild body kick that Lopez sees coming a mile off. Lopez closes the distance looking to clinch and Jones counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lopez thinking. Jones has his takedown stuffed and Jones takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Lopez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Jones bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Lopez is letting Jones control him for a moment. Lopez prevents Jones from moving into mount. Lopez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lopez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Jones has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. A head kick by Jones misses and Lopez counters with a low kick, right behind Jones 's knee.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez wants to clinch and Jones counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Jones fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Norbert Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Jones. A head kick by Jones misses and Lopez counters with an outside leg kick.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lopez tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lopez to the ground. Lopez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Lopez tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Jones fails with a takedown attempt. Lopez tries to clinch up. Lopez swinging wildly here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Lopez clinches with his opponent.
Lopez wants to take the fight to the mat but Jones manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Jones gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lopez.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Lopez tries to score a body lock takedown but Jones shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Lopez is breathing heavily. Lopez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Lopez tries to throw a body punch but Jones avoids it by throwing Lopez back against the cage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Lopez can't find room to land a body shot as Jones controls the action.
Lopez is looking to take this one to the mat. Jones decides to pull guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Jones dominated that round. That's time! Lopez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Jones drives through with a takedown into guard. Jones is stalling in the full guard. Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Jones postures up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Jones wasn't active enough on the ground. Lopez tries to clinch up and Jones counters with a crisp one two that drops Lopez! Jones thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Lopez to his feet! Lopez is in big trouble!
Lopez is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones closes the distance and pushes Lopez back into the cage. Oh Lopez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Jones has had enough of the clinch but Lopez keeps him there for the moment. Jones can't get the takedown.
Jones has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lopez uses from the top position. Lopez seems to have got his legs back now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lopez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lopez! Jones is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Lopez is in real trouble.
Lopez is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Jones.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jones is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Lopez is trying to break free.
Jones controls the action. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lopez covering up well under a barage of strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Lopez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Lopez throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Jones no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Lopez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Lopez won't allow Jones to sweep him here. And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to James Jones. Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
