Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sammy Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Steven Brown and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rua darts in and clinches Smith up against the cage.
Smith tries to pull guard but Rua won't allow it.
Rua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mauricio Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rua bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rua moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith looks to clinch
and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smith's guard now.

Rua wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rua postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Smith looks a forlorn figure.

Rua takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Smith is squirming around, avoiding Rua's attempts to control the action.
Rua jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Smith is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Smith and Rua has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Smith is looking for a sweep.
Rua has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Smith!

Smith is desperately trying to improve his position but Rua has a good base and remains in mount.

Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Rua clinches.

Smith drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rua gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Smith gets underhooks to prevent Rua's takedown attempt.
Smith is looking to control Rua's arms but Rua gets an underhook and turns him. Now Smith has his back to the cage.
Smith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rua just stands there and leans against the cage.
Smith on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rua has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Smith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Smith drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rua breaks from the clinch.
Rua drives through and clinches with Smith against the cage.
Smith is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rua pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Smith changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rua fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Smith is breathing heavily.
A head kick misses from Smith.
Rua tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.
Rua is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rua fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Rua persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rua is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Smith is looking to improve his position.
Rua scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Rua wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Smith uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Smith pulls Rua in close to prevent any damage.
Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rua!
Smith trying to control but Rua is having none of it.
Rua is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rua can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Mauricio Rua will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Rua doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
Smith tries to clinch up
and Rua counters with a big head kick but Smith shrugs it off.
Rua throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Smith tries for a takedown but Rua circles away easily
and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that.
Rua is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Smith can't do much from the bottom here.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smith is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rua wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
Smith is trying to get back to half guard.
Mauricio Rua overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Rua looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rua throws a left and a right that both miss
and Smith counters with a leg kick.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smith throws a head kick that half lands.
Rua has a takedown stuffed.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rua crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Smith - the referee stops the clock and Rua gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Smith. Rua manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smith's guard now.

Rua thows a big elbow that misses.

Rua has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Smith to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Rua is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Smith pulls down on the head and he's put Rua to sleep! This one is all over!
