Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Teddy Barton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yogi Dhamma! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dhamma decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Dhamma looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dhamma is trying to work for a kimura but Barton is defending well.
Dhamma controlling the pace. Barton is staying active underneath Dhamma, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Dhamma uses his free foot to push down on Barton's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Barton. Dhamma jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Barton is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Barton and Dhamma has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dhamma is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Barton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Dhamma advances to full mount. Dhamma looking to secure an arm triangle but Barton defends it well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dhamma has control of Barton's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Barton regains control of the situation pretty easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dhamma takes Barton's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Barton is in trouble. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dhamma is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Barton is trying to defend against the choke here but Dhamma has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Dhamma Tightens the hold and Barton taps out furiously! Dhamma displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Yogi Dhamma!
