The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliver closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Da Cruz did well to prevent Oliver getting side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Da Cruz trying to hold on to Oliver's head to control him but Oliver postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oliver prevents Da Cruz from improving his position.
Da Cruz wants to control but Oliver is keeping busy and won't allow it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Joao Da Cruz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Oliver throws a head kick that half lands.
Oliver tries a head kick but it misses.
Da Cruz tries for a takedown but Oliver circles away easily
and Oliver counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Da Cruz!

Da Cruz is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Oliver is staying active.

Da Cruz wants to get back to full guard.
Da Cruz is pressing down on Oliver's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oliver wants to stand but Da Cruz has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Da Cruz has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Oliver doesn't defend quickly enough and Da Cruz has managed to lock this one up! Can Oliver escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Da Cruz on a fantastic submission victory.
