PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Howlingate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howlingate gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gracie stands and throws Howlingate's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Howlingate tries to escape but Gracie is in control.

Gracie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Howlingate keeps working.
Howlingate on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Howlingate tries to get out of the position.
Gracie wants to stand but Howlingate has his arm trapped.
The ground and pound from Gracie seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie wants to stand but Howlingate is controlling his arm.
Gracie tries to move into full mount but can't pass Howlingate's legs.
Gracie misses with the ground and pound.

Gracie tries to advance to mount but can't.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Howlingate is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gracie tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Royce Gracie.
Howlingate misses with an uppercut. Gracie saw that one coming.
Howlingate looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gracie looks for a takedown but Howlingate sprawls well.
Howlingate will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Royce Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Howlingate cracks Gracie with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Gracie looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Howlingate finish him?

Gracie slips under a jab.
A combination from Howlingate does no damage.
Howlingate connects with a body shot.
Gracie tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Howlingate defends well and Gracie ends up having to push Howlingate into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Howlingate is trying to push Gracie away but Gracie has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Gracie is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Gracie tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Howlingate just stands there and leans against the cage.
Howlingate can't break the clinch.

Gracie is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Howlingate is defending well for now.
Howlingate is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Roger Howlingate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royce Gracie.
Howlingate is trying to break the clinch but Gracie is controlling him.
Howlingate looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Gracie manages to break the clinch.
Howlingate avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No joy there for Howlingate, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Howlingate but Howlingate pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Howlingate throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gracie stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Gracie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Gracie walks straight into a right hand from Howlingate - that's dropped him! Howlingate jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Gracie from any more punishment! Gracie complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
