Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rufus Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Delion Tape (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rufus Diaz has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Rufus Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Delion Tape!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Darius Henderson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tape has his takedown stuffed
and Diaz counters with a nice leg kick.
Tape misses with a takedown
enabling Diaz to counter with a crisp jab.

Diaz takes the fight into the clinch.
Tape is working for takedown but Diaz is calmly controlling the position for now.
Rufus Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Delion Tape.
Tape is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Diaz gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz tries to work over Tape's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Tape letting Diaz take a breather here.
Tape changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Diaz fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Tape shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Diaz counters with a nice low kick that buckles Tape's knee momentarily.

and Diaz counters with a shoot takedown. Tape fights it but they end up in guard.

Diaz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tape is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Diaz, into his guard.
Diaz seems keen to control Tape's posture.

Diaz wants to stand up but Tape is controlling him.
Tape trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Delion Tape wasn't active enough on the ground.

Diaz pushes Tape up against the cage in a clinch.

Diaz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tape doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tape won't be happy with that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tape seems a little lost for a moment, as Diaz dominates the positioning.

Diaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Diaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The referee asks Diaz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Diaz prefers to stall for the moment though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Diaz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tape, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tape has his takedown stuffed

and Diaz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tape's guard.

Tape working for a triangle but Diaz defends it easily.
Diaz controls from within his opponent's guard.
Tape has momentary wrist control but Diaz slips an elbow through the middle.
Diaz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Diaz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rufus Diaz.

and Tape counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Diaz!
Tape is breathing heavily.

Tape looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Tape goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Diaz rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tape's guard! Nice work there by Diaz!
Diaz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Tape keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rufus Diaz.
Tape with a poor takedown

and Diaz counters with a shoot takedown. Tape fights it but they end up in guard.
Diaz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Diaz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Diaz has managed to clinch.
Diaz is looking to break free of the clinch but Tape has double underhooks.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tape has Diaz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Diaz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Tape prevents a body shot from Diaz.
Diaz tries to throw a body punch but Tape avoids it by throwing Diaz back against the cage.
Diaz tries to land knees in the clinch but Tape avoids the damage to the body.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Diaz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Diaz lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Tape.

so Diaz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

We're going to have a standup here because Rufus Diaz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
