PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hideki Masada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Zane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masada comes to the ring accompanied by "Tokyo Drift (Restage Remix)" by Teriyaki Boyz. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masada scores with a head kick.
Zane throws a series of punches but Masada avoids them all with ease.

and Masada counters by clinching up.
Masada is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Zane is defending well.

Masada pulls guard successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Zane missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Masada kicks Zane off and gets to his feet.

Masada shoots in and gets a takedown into Zane's guard.
Masada sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Zane's guard.

Masada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zane but Zane pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Zane is looking for a sweep. Masada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Zane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Masada. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Masada is trying to work for a kimura but Zane is defending well.
Zane has a hand on Masada's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Masada takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Masada is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Zane can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Masada goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Zane is on top in guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Masada fails with a takedown attempt.
Zane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Masada pinned against the ropes. Masada gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mike Zane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Masada misses with a takedown attempt - Zane sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Masada shoots in for a takedown but Zane shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Zane throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Masada looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Masada shoots for a double leg takedown but Zane sprawls well. He's pushed Masada's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Zane throws a nice looking combination but Masada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Masada counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Masada closes the distance and clinches up with Zane, looking for a takedown. Masada pushes Zane against the ropes but Zane circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Zane throws a low kick, looking for Masada's leg but Masada calmly moves out of range.

Zane shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Masada eats them both and turns towards Zane to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Zane darts in and clinches Masada up against the ropes.
Masada gets underhooks to prevent Zane's takedown attempt.

Masada is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Zane can't fight it off and eventually Masada manages to take the fight to the floor. Zane looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Zane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Masada escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Masada shoots in and drives through. Zane sprawls well.
Zane looks to score with a jab to the body but Masada is just out of range.
Masada fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Zane lands with a slapping head kick.
Zane thows a body shot but no joy.

Zane gets tackled into the ropes by Masada. Masada maintains the clinch.
Zane tries to pull guard but Masada won't allow it.
Zane is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Masada gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Zane must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Masada is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Zane throws a strike but Masada rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Masada stands up from Zane's guard - Masada perhaps looking for a knockout.

Masada closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Zane quickly recovers to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Masada is working for a kimura but Zane is defending it quite comfortably.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hideki Masada will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Masada shoots in looking for a takedown. Zane tries to sprawl out of it but Masada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Zane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Zane fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Masada manages to avoid it.
Zane lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Masada circles away quickly and effectively.

Masada is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Zane's half guard.
Masada passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Zane!

Masada looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Masada, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
