PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Cohen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jermain Moore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ben Cohen has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Cohen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jermain Moore!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moore tries to close the distance and clinch but Cohen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Moore moves into range and clinches up with Cohen.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Moore creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Moore turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Moore manages to end up in side control.
Cohen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Cohen wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Moore trying to control the action but Cohen is working from the bottom.

Moore has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Moore fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cohen sprawls well initially but Moore persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cohen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cohen wants to control but Moore is keeping busy.

Cohen looks like he's trying to stand up.
Cohen trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Cohen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Moore is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ben Cohen wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Moore uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cohen.
Cohen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Moore was well out of range. Poor timing from Cohen.
Jermain Moore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cohen tries to sprawl but Moore drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Cohen is staying active underneath Moore, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cohen wants to get back to his feet.
Cohen won't allow Moore to pass to mount.
Cohen is refusing to be controlled, as Moore sits in half guard.
Moore looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Jermain Moore has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Moore closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Moore lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cohen lands a couple of shots from the bottom.

Moore passes Cohen's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Cohen tries to kick Moore off but Moore keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Cohen gets full guard.

Moore got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cohen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Moore has managed to get both his arms back between Cohen's legs - danger averted.

Cohen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Moore doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Moore manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Moore must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cohen is wriggling around but Moore manages to pass to half guard.
Cohen pushes Moore off looking to stand but Moore dives back in and keeps control.
Cohen is breathing heavily.
Moore is keen to just control but Cohen is a slippery customer.
Moore is pressing down on Cohen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cohen is holding on for now.

Moore is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cohen wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Moore is keen to just control but Cohen is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jermain Moore dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cohen takes a swing at Moore's ribcage but misses.
Moore misses with a wild body shot.

Moore looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cohen!
Moore trying to control the action but Cohen is working from the bottom.

Cohen explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Moore gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ben Cohen.

Moore closes the distance and clinches.
Moore is trying to stall.
Cohen throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Moore blocks it with crossed arms.

Moore lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Ben Cohen has been cut.
Cohen throws an elbow but it misses.

Moore breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Moore scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Cohen wants to get back to his feet but Moore drags him back down.
Moore wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cohen keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cohen can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Moore throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Cohen is trying to get back to his feet.

Moore decides to stand back up. Moore steps back and let's Cohen get back to his feet.

Moore shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cohen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Moore is breathing heavily.
Moore is looking to take a break and control but Cohen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cohen tries to improve position but can't.
Cohen wants to get back to his feet.
Jermain Moore has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cohen struggling a bit here.
Cohen pushes Moore away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Moore gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Cohen is looking for a sweep.

Moore tries for a kimura but Cohen is defending well.

Moore stands up.
Jermain Moore is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Moore lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cohen avoids a kick to the body.

Jermain Moore showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Ben Cohen's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Cohen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Moore defends it easily.
Cohen keeping moving, preventing Moore from controlling successfully.
Moore won't allow Cohen to get back to his feet.
Moore looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Moore throws a nice looking combination but Cohen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Moore takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Moore fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cohen to the ground. Moore is now in Cohen's guard.

Cohen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cohen wants to stand and escape but Moore is having none of it.

Moore looking to sit in guard and control but Cohen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cohen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cohen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ben Cohen.

Cohen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Moore on his heels. He'll look to pass Moore's guard now, I'm sure.

Moore can't keep his opponent in guard - Cohen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Moore tries to get to full guard but Cohen has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cohen connects with a nice short shot to Moore's temple.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cohen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ben Cohen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jermain Moore is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Moore has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
