Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pancho Lopez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dee Snyder! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Snyder throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Snyder throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lopez's waist but Lopez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Snyder off to one side. Snyder closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Snyder controlling from side mount. Lopez managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Snyder.
Snyder tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Snyder working the ground and pound from side control. A lull in the action here. Snyder trying to control the position but Lopez is working away. Lopez is trying to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Snyder trying to control the action but Lopez is working from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Snyder. Lopez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Snyder counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Lopez is breathing heavily. Lopez is not content to let Snyder control the position. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Snyder connects with a nice short shot to Lopez's temple. Snyder wants to pass the guard but Lopez is defending well. Lopez is staying active underneath Snyder, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Snyder is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Snyder decides to stand up. Snyder gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Lopez won't allow Snyder to sweep him here. Lopez trying to control but Snyder is working from the bottom. Lopez pushing down on Snyder's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Still in half guard, Lopez seems content to control. Lopez is trying to work for a kimura but Snyder is defending well.
Lopez scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez lands strikes from half guard. Snyder wants to improve his position but Lopez is controlling well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lopez in particular looking to stall. Snyder trying to hold on to Lopez's head to control him but Lopez postures up.
Snyder is trying to stand up here but Lopez is controlling him well. Snyder controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Snyder tries to get to full guard but Lopez has control of the leg. Snyder trying to control here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Snyder might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lopez kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Snyder closes the distance and clinches. Lopez stops a takedown attempt from Snyder.
Pancho Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dee Snyder. The is referee keeping an eye on Snyder - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Snyder tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lopez just stands there and leans against the cage. Snyder escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Snyder misses with a takedown attempt and Lopez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Snyder's guard now. Lopez stopping the sweep attempt from Snyder. Lopez forces his way into half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Snyder tries to roll over but Lopez keeps him under control. Lopez frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Pancho Lopez will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Lopez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pancho Lopez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Snyder swats away the attempt to clinch by Lopez. Snyder takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Snyder shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lopez as he avoids it easily. Snyder has managed to clinch.
Lopez jumps into guard, dragging Snyder to the mat.
Snyder wants to control from the top but Lopez keeps moving. Snyder won't allow Lopez to sweep him here. Snyder trying to control the position from guard on top but Lopez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lopez had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Snyder is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Lopez Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Snyder's back instead. Snyder trying to control the hands but Lopez breaks the grip. Snyder is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lopez landing with strikes. Lopez is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Snyder is rocked! Lopez is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Snyder. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped. Snyder is still in real trouble! Can Lopez finish him? Lopez trying to control momentarily.
Snyder is looking to control the hands but Lopez breaks free and manages to sink in a rear naked choke that ends the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Pancho Lopez!
