PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rodrigo Silva !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Antonio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gracie sprawls well. Gracie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.
Silva swats away the attempt to clinch by Gracie.
Gracie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Silva manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Gracie closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Silva quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Gracie content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Silva wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Silva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Gracie looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Silva controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.
Gracie won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
Gracie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gracie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gracie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

That was a close round but I would say that Rodrigo Silva will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Gracie parries the strikes from Silva easily there. Silva is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gracie to escape.

Silva tries to score with some ground and pound. Gracie controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gracie is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gracie is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Silva is taking a breather. Gracie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Silva wants to work for an arm triangle but Gracie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gracie looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gracie looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gracie!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Silva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gracie!

Silva is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gracie to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gracie shrugs it off.

It looks like Antonio Gracie has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silva won't let Gracie get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Gracie is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Gracie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Silva wants to finish this one by submission but Gracie is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Silva .
Gracie takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rodrigo Silva .
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva , winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
