Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, TJ Maxx! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeganathan Mondero! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maxx looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Mondero scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Maxx dodges the ground and pound from Mondero. Mondero goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Maxx has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mondero but great work by Maxx. Maxx trying to control the action but Mondero is working from the bottom. Maxx looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Mondero is avoiding damage well.
An elbow from Maxx crashes against the mat.
Mondero manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Maxx has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mondero is working away from the top position though. Maxx on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Maxx tries to get out of the position. Mondero wants to free his trapped foot but Maxx is holding on for dear life with his legs. Maxx gets back to full guard.
Mondero drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Maxx manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mondero has Maxx in his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mondero managing to control the position. Maxx trying to control the position from guard on top but Mondero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Maxx prevents Mondero from getting back to his feet. Mondero is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Maxx wants to pass the guard but Mondero is keeping the position. Mondero is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mondero is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Maxx will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A big right from Maxx misses. A jab from Maxx misses. Maxx lands a monster head kick that reverborates around the arena! The crowd goes wild as Mondero crumples to the floor! Maxx milks the crowd's applause and if that isn't knockout of the night, I will be very surprised!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). TJ Maxx!
