PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Volk Kruth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Chalas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chalas is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Chubby Jag-U.O.E.N.O. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Volk Kruth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luis Chalas!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kruth lands a leg kick that knocks Chalas off balance momentarily.
A head kick misses from Kruth.
Kruth throws a head kick but Chalas moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Chalas or perhaps it was just good defense by Kruth which made him look bad.
Kruth throws a lazy uppercut
and Chalas counters with a low kick, right behind Kruth 's knee.
Kruth throws a leg kick
and Kruth takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Kruth lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Chalas has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Chalas and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Chalas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kruth sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kruth fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Chalas drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Kruth has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Chalas trying to control the position from guard on top but Kruth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chalas looking to sit in guard and control but Kruth gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Chalas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kruth wants to control from the top but Chalas keeps moving.

Chalas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kruth defends well.

Chalas looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kruth has picked Chalas up and slammed him! Chalas can't keep hold of the triangle and Kruth manages to pass to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chalas tries to bench press Kruth off him but Kruth keeps the position.
Kruth is chipping away with strikes.
Chalas is looking to reverse the position.
Chalas takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chalas sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Chalas tries to roll over but Kruth keeps him under control.

Chalas is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kruth pulls his head out easily.
Chalas is looking for a sweep. Kruth is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kruth landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Chalas has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Kruth escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Kruth!

Chalas is trying to improve his position.
Chalas is not content to let Kruth control the position.

Chalas is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kruth is putting a hurting on Chalas here, landing some big shots from side control.
Kruth connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Chalas some visible discomfort.
Chalas is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Chalas is still trying to improve position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chalas is trying to work for a sweep but Kruth has mounted him!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kruth is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Chalas can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kruth pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Kruth tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Chalas is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Volk Kruth will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kruth pivots, looking for a leg kick but Chalas is out of range and Kruth settles back down.

Kruth rushes Chalas and presses him up against the cage.
Kruth lands a nice uppercut.
Kruth is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Kruth lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
I was talking to Kruth's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Kruth seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Chalas can't get the takedown.
Kruth scores with a nice hook to the head.
Chalas goes for a takedown attempt but Kruth pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Chalas throws a looping overhand right but Kruth ducks down to avoid it.

Kruth fails with an attempt to clinch.
Chalas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Volk Kruth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Chalas.
Chalas tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Kruth lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Volk Kruth is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kruth clinches.
Chalas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kruth is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Chalas tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kruth just stands there and leans against the cage.

Chalas is working for takedown but Kruth is calmly controlling the position for now.
Chalas's coach down at GoldStar Elite was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Chalas's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Chalas can't get the takedown.
Kruth has Chalas pressed against the cage.
Chalas is looking for a takedown.
Kruth lands an elbow that stopped Chalas in his tracks for a moment.
Kruth prevents the takedown attempt.
Kruth lands an elbow just above Chalas 's eye.
Chalas goes for a takedown attempt but Kruth pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Chalas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chalas on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Chalas shoots in but no luck this time.
Kruth plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Kruth lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chalas circles away quickly and effectively.
Kruth throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


Chalas is rocked!
Kruth moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Chalas is still on wobbly legs! Can Kruth finish him?
Chalas misses with a takedown attempt
and Kruth counters with a slapping leg kick.
Chalas is breathing heavily.

Kruth tries to sprawl but Chalas drives through with a takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kruth looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Chalas trying to control but Kruth is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Luis Chalas wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kruth throws a leg kick which misses Chalas's front leg but catches the back leg as Chalas tries to avoid it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chalas stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kruth.
Kruth cracks Chalas with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Chalas swings for the body but Kruth moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Volk Kruth dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Chalas tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Kruth throws a quick inside leg kick.
Chalas walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Kruth fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Kruth lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Chalas's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Chalas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kruth tries to close the distance and clinch but Chalas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kruth tries a low kick but Chalas avoids it.

Kruth closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Chalas doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Chalas tries to pull guard but Kruth holds him up against the cage and eventually Chalas drops back down to his feet.

Kruth gets through Chalas's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Chalas goes for a takedown attempt but Kruth pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Volk Kruth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Chalas.

Chalas shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kruth sprawls well. Kruth wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chalas gets slowly back to his feet.

Kruth swats away the attempt to clinch by Chalas.

Kruth takes the fight into the clinch.
Chalas takes an elbow to the temple.
Chalas can't get the takedown.
Kruth taking a breather.
Kruth lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Chalas is trying to force a seperation but Kruth has the dominant position.
Kruth lands a shoulder strike.
Kruth slows down the pace here.
Chalas is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kruth to keep the fight standing.

Kruth stops a takedown attempt from Chalas.
Chalas has Kruth pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kruth manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Kruth's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Chalas is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Kruth is keeping busy.

Kruth is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Luis Chalas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kruth is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kruth got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chalas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kruth has managed to get both his arms back between Chalas's legs - danger averted.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Volk Kruth showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kruth, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
