Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Baha Beison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeff Smith!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beison misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.

Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Smith trying to control the action but Beison is working from the bottom.

Beison won't allow Smith to pass to mount.

Smith wants to work for an arm triangle but Beison is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Smith looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Beison is defending well.

Beison wants to get back to his feet.
Beison's coaches at Combat Zone [15 Elite & Sauna have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Smith is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Beison gets back to full guard.

Smith wants to control from the top but Beison keeps moving.

Beison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Smith is controlling him.

Beison is pushing Smith's head away, looking to escape. Smith manages to hold on to the position though.

Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Beison has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Beison's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Beison looks to move to half guard but instead Smith has passed into mount! Damn!

Smith with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Smith is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Beison has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Beison!

Smith looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Beison puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Smith dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Beison manages to break the clinch.
Beison looks to land a right hand but Smith moved out of range.
Beison lands a lovely overhand right.
Beison scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Smith has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Beison throws a left that rocks Smith and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Beison dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Smith regain composure!

Smith is looking for a sweep.
Smith sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Smith won't allow Beison to pass to mount.
Beison wants to stand up but Smith has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Smith wants to sweep here but Beison controlling him for the moment.

Jeff Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smith is pulling down on Beison's head. It's preventing any offense from Beison, at least for the moment.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Beison has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Smith is looking for a triangle but Beison pushes his legs off easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Beison stalls.
Smith goes for a takedown attempt but Beison pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Baha Beison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Smith.
Beison lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Smith backs up against the cage.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Beison counters with a left to the body.
Smith looks for a takedown but Beison sprawls well.

Beison moves into the clinch.

Beison breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Smith tries for a takedown but Beison circles away easily
and Beison counters with a straight right hand.

Beison clinches up against the cage.
Smith is looking to take this one to the mat.
Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Beison smiles and moves away.
Beison ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.
Baha Beison is winning the standup battle so far.
Beison will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Beison misses with a straight left.

Smith looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Beison!
Beison is pushing Smith's head away, looking to escape. Smith manages to hold on to the position though.

Smith taking a break here but Beison is having none of it and regains half guard.
Beison is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Beison escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Smith postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Beison is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Smith, into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baha Beison dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Beison breaks from the clinch.
Beison takes a swing at Smith's ribcage but misses.
Beison just misses with a punch to the body.

Smith tries to keep at a distance but Beison has taken the fight into the clinch.

Beison's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Beison looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into Beison's guard.
Smith works over Beison with some ground and pound from guard.

Smith prevents Beison from getting back to his feet.
Beison is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Smith working some strikes from top position.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Beison has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Beison pushes Smith off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Beison counters with a two punch combo.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Beison scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith looks for a takedown but Beison sprawls well.
Baha Beison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Smith.
Beison misses with a double jab.
Beison throws a right and a left that both miss.
Beison will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Baha Beison is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Beison connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Baha Beison seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Beison goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Smith drives through with a takedown into Beison's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Beison is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Beison, who protects the arm well.

Beison is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Beison is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Beison is looking to reverse the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Baha Beison.
I think Beison has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
