PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jared Cowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ray King told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jared Cowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ray King!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cowen lands a head shot.
Cowen misses with a wild body shot.
King slaps away a takedown attempt from Cowen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cowen misses with a head kick.
Cowen misses with a straight right.
Cowen uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before King has time to react.


It looks like Ray King has been cut.
Cowen throws a leg kick that misses.

Cowen has managed to clinch.
Cowen lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
King takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
King tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cowen was well out of range. Poor timing from King.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cowen drops King with a left and a right! Oh, King is hurt - Cowen dives into side control looking to finish!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Cowen scores with punches from side control.


King is rocked!
King is pushing Cowen's head away, looking to escape. Cowen manages to hold on to the position though.

Cowen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cowen goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, King rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cowen's guard! Nice work there by King!
Cowen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
King with a flurry of punches that miss.

Cowen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. King defends it easily.
King trying to control but Cowen is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cowen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Cowen keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.

King is sitting in close to Cowen's body. Cowen has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! King is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, King is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Cowen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jared Cowen!
A very excited looking Jared Cowen rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
