Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dorian Sweeney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rock Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dorian Sweeney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rock Balboa!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sweeney shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Balboa but Balboa pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sweeney.
Balboa goes for a double leg but Sweeney avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sweeney continues to drive forward.
Sweeney drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dorian Sweeney. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Balboa.

Balboa gets control of Sweeney's arms and successfully pulls guard. Balboa will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sweeney has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Balboa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sweeney can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Balboa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sweeney defends it easily.

Balboa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Balboa has control of Sweeney's left arm, preventing Sweeney from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Balboa is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Balboa throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Sweeney trying to control the position from guard on top but Balboa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sweeney is really struggling to control Balboa but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Dorian Sweeney has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Balboa defending well as Sweeney loads up on a big left hand.

A combination from Balboa does no damage.

Balboa gets a clinch.
Sweeney wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Balboa has him pressed against the cage.
Balboa wants to take the fight to the mat but Sweeney manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Sweeney wants to get back to striking at distance but Balboa won't allow it.
Balboa blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Sweeney tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Balboa just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sweeney won't allow Balboa to get back to his feet.
Sweeney postures up in Balboa's guard and throws a big left but Balboa blocks it.
Sweeney connects with a couple of short punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Balboa is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Sweeney presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Balboa decides to pull guard.
Balboa looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Balboa controls Sweeney momentarily but Sweeney frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sweeney accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sweeney won't allow Balboa to sweep him here.
Sweeney not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sweeney trying to control the position from guard on top but Balboa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dorian Sweeney wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sweeney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Balboa tries to avoid it but Sweeney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Balboa to the ground. Balboa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sweeney dodges the punch combination from Balboa.
Balboa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Balboa looks winded!

Balboa fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Sweeney on the side of the head.

Sweeney shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Balboa is trying to defend but Sweeney finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Balboa is looking for a sweep. Sweeney is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sweeney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Balboa keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
It looks like Sweeney is going to stand back up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Balboa is controlling Sweeney's position as best he can from this difficult position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sweeney wants to stand up but Balboa is controlling the position.
Sweeney lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rock Balboa will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Horrible takedown by Balboa or perhaps it was just good defense by Sweeney which made him look bad.
Balboa scores with a jab. Sweeney acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Sweeney looks to land a combination but Balboa avoids it well.
Sweeney looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Balboa is fending him off so far but Sweeney persists. Nope, Balboa circles away and we're back to standing.
Balboa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sweeney as he avoids it easily.
Balboa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sweeney's waist but Sweeney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Balboa off to one side.
Dorian Sweeney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rock Balboa.

Balboa moves into the clinch.
Balboa's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Sweeney is trying to force a seperation but Balboa has the dominant position.

Balboa breaks from the clinch.
Sweeney tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Balboa defends well and Sweeney ends up having to push Balboa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Balboa content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Balboa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rock Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Balboa is defended easily by Sweeney.

Balboa shoots in for a double leg but Sweeney sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sweeney shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Balboa as he avoids it easily.
Balboa is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sweeney sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Balboa looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sweeney is fending him off so far but Balboa persists. Nope, Sweeney circles away and we're back to standing.

Sweeney has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Balboa uses from the top position.
Balboa is looking to work some ground and pound but Sweeney has wrist control.

Sweeney seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Balboa gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sweeney goes for a takedown attempt but Balboa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Balboa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rock Balboa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Balboa shoots in looking for a takedown. Sweeney tries to sprawl out of it but Balboa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sweeney manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sweeney has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Balboa doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Sweeney counter with a right hand.
Sweeney shoots for a double leg takedown but Balboa sprawls well. He's pushed Sweeney's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rock Balboa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Sweeney walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dorian Sweeney.
I think Balboa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
