Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dominic Berzins!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rick Patton!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patton throws a big shot that misses.
Berzins keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Patton.
Patton misses with a combination
and Berzins counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Patton lands an overhand right.
Patton swats away the attempt to clinch by Berzins.
Berzins throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Berzins throws a hook but Patton blocks it.
Patton looks to throw the jab but Berzins is out of range.
Berzins throws a hook to the side of Patton's head but Patton sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Patton looks to land a right hand but Berzins moved out of range.
Berzins swings for the body but Patton moves out of range.
Patton throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Patton missing with a left hand there. Berzins was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Berzins fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Patton looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Patton shoots in looking for a takedown. Berzins tries to sprawl out of it but Patton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Berzins manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Patton misses with a left hand
and Berzins counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Berzins uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Patton.
Patton looks to land a left hand but Berzins moved out of range nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patton swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Patton takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Patton is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Patton misses with a jab, cross combination.
Patton has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Patton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Patton throws a lazy uppercut
and Berzins counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Berzins has managed to clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Patton has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Berzins avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Dominic Berzins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Patton.
Berzins digs a right hand underneath Patton's ribcage. Patton let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Patton working hard to break the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Berzins.
Nice body punch from Berzins - that landed with a thud.
Berzins pushes Patton back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Berzins misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Berzins looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Berzins's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Patton tries for a takedown. No joy.
Patton has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Berzins avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Berzins lands a hook that snaps the head of Patton backwards.
Patton misses with the head strike.

Berzins gets through Patton's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Berzins lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Berzins lands with a short shot to the head.
Berzins working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Patton misses with a hook from the clinch.
Berzins lands a left hand that snaps the head of Patton backwards.
Berzins lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Patton or not.
Patton goes for a takedown attempt but Berzins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Patton misses with an uppercut. Berzins saw that one coming.
Berzins is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Patton hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Dominic Berzins!
