PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sean Casey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machida has chosen Straight Out of Line as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sean Casey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyoto Machida!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida scores with the left hand. Casey knows he should have avoided that one.
Casey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Machida as he jumps to the side.
Casey keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Machida scores with a nice head shot.
Machida throws a series of punches but Casey moves out of range.
Machida looks to land a combination but Casey avoids it well.
Lyoto Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid leg kick lands there for Machida.
Machida tries a head kick but it misses.
Casey shoots in looking for a takedown. Machida tries to sprawl out of it but Casey keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Machida manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Machida lands a big shot that drops Casey! Can he finish him?


Casey is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Machida avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Machida is looking to stand up but Casey won't let him.
Machida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Casey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Machida slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Casey had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Machida is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Casey Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Machida's back instead.
Machida controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Casey has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Casey is trying to stick to Machida's back but Machida is turning into Casey. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Casey's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Machida.

Casey is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Machida wanted to stand there but Casey had control of the position.
Machida is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Casey is looking for a triangle but Machida pushes his legs off easily.
Machida must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Machida wants to get up but he can't break Casey's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Casey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Casey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Machida.
A head kick by Machida - that's a beauty! Casey is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Machida can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Lyoto Machida!
