PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Lockheart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Silva might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Instrumental Core - The Angels Among Demons. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fernando Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kurt Lockheart!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Dirk Anderson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Lockheart seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lockheart swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Lockheart looking for a sweep. Not yet Lockheart, not yet.
Silva postures up.
Lockheart looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kurt Lockheart.

Silva closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lockheart to the mat! Lockheart manages to get full guard.

Lockheart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lockheart for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fernando Silva.

Lockheart closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Lockheart getting side control.

Silva bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lockheart's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Lockheart closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Silva's guard.
Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Silva is taking a breather. Lockheart says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Lockheart wants to control but Silva is keeping busy and won't allow it.

We're going to have a standup here because Fernando Silva wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Silva fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lockheart defends it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Lockheart moves into the clinch.

Lockheart manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Lockheart tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lockheart has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Lockheart has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Silva is landing a low percentage of strikes.

We've been hearing good reports from Silva's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lockheart avoids it really well and circles away.

Lockheart gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Silva to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Silva has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lockheart defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Silva.
Lockheart stuffs the takedown attempt from Silva. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.
Silva darts in looking for a takedown but Lockheart gets double underhooks and turns Silva into the cage.

Lockheart throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Silva tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lockheart is in Silva's guard.
Silva wants to sweep here but Lockheart controlling him for the moment.
Fernando Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Silva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Lockheart drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lockheart jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lockheart is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
