Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Travis Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Jones! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones fails with a takedown attempt. Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Smith pulls him back up using the underhooks. Smith misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Jones.
Smith lands a left hand.
Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Smith drops Jones with a nice combination! Smith dives into Jones's guard, looking to finish!
Jones is rocked!
It looks like Paul Jones has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there. Jones is still in real trouble! Can Smith finish him? Smith is looking to stand up but Jones won't let him. Jones seems to have recovered his senses. Smith might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones is trying to keep Smith in close.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smith has managed to clinch.
Jones is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now. Travis Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Jones.

Jones fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Smith clinches up against the ropes. Jones takes an elbow to the temple. Jones blocks the elbow strike.
Smith pushes off an throws an elbow but Jones leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the ropes.

Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Smith instigates a clinch. Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one. Smith looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well. Smith lands a head kick!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Smith jabs Jones right on the nose. Jones blinks but takes it well. Jones looks to land a right hand but Smith moved out of range. Travis Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Smith lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Jones is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Jones on the wrong end of a nice hook. Paul Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith lands a jab-cross combination. A jab from Smith finds it's way through Jones's defenses. Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes. Smith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Jones's head. Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Jones has a takedown stuffed. Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Smith against the ropes but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jones with a lazy takedown attempt and Smith counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Smith. Smith is really dominating this fight. Jones goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad. Smith moves out of range of the body kick. Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet. Smith throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range. Travis Smith is winning the standup battle so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.

Smith is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Smith moves out of range of the leg kick from Jones. Jones shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Smith counters with a big head kick but Jones shrugs it off. Jones shoots in but no luck this time. Smith tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Paul Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Smith misses with a few strikes there.
Jones shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Smith connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Smith throws a quick inside leg kick. Travis Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jones is looking to chop away at Smith's legs.
And that's the end of the fight! Travis Smith showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
