PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jordi Warner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sebastian Mercy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordi Warner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sebastian Mercy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Warner with that takedown attempt.

Warner closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercy looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Warner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mercy is just riding it out for now. Warner eventually gives up the hold.
Mercy wants to control but Warner passes into side.
Mercy is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Warner off and has taken his back!

Mercy is persistently looking for the submission but Warner is defending it well.
Mercy doesn't have the hooks in and Warner manages to turn into his guard.
Mercy keeping moving, preventing Warner from controlling successfully.

Warner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Warner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Warner drops back looking for a leg! Mercy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mercy manages to kick Warner off! Warner jumps back into Mercy's guard.

Mercy lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Warner!
Warner is breathing heavily.
Mercy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Warner's face.

Mercy lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Warner is wriggling around trying to escape.

Warner takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Mercy breaks from Warner's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Mercy has control of Warner's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Warner regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Mercy has hold of Warner's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Warner manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Warner can't escape the position.

Mercy prevents Warner from getting the reversal.

Warner bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Mercy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Warner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mercy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Warner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Warner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Warner wants to clinch up but Mercy keeps it at a distance.
Sebastian Mercy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Warner counters with a shoot takedown. Mercy fights it but they end up in guard.

Warner ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mercy throws a combination that misses

and Warner counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Warner drops back looking for a leg! Mercy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mercy manages to kick Warner off! Warner jumps back into Mercy's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sebastian Mercy will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Warner. Mercy shrugs it off though.
Warner misses with a double jab

and Mercy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Warner's guard.
Mercy scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Warner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mercy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

and Warner counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Warner.
Mercy wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mercy swings wildly with an uppercut but Warner uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mercy can't break the clinch.

Warner blocks an uppercut.
Mercy stops a takedown attempt from Warner.
Mercy tries for a takedown but Warner manages to get underhooks.

Jordi Warner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sebastian Mercy.

Warner is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mercy can't fight it off and eventually Warner manages to take the fight to the floor. Mercy looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mercy is on top in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mercy's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Mercy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Warner's guard.
Warner has hold of Mercy's hands but Mercy slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Warner wants to improve his position but Mercy is controlling well.
Warner is pressing down on Mercy's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Warner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mercy slips nicely into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sebastian Mercy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Warner is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mercy knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Warner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mercy's head.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mercy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Warner scores a takedown into full mount!
Mercy is controlling an arm, preventing Warner from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Mercy is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Warner wants to finish this one by submission but Mercy is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Warner.

Warner lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Warner looking for a guillotine from mount but Mercy is having none of it.
Mercy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Warner lands a big shot there that rocks Mercy but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Warner is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Mercy is surviving well by controlling Warner's body position as best he can.
Mercy is squirming around, avoiding Warner's attempts to control the action.
Mercy sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Warner looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Warner is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mercy defends it well.
Warner wants to pass to mount but Mercy is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mercy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Warner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Warner's back!
Mercy is trying to stick to Warner's back but Warner is turning into Mercy. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mercy's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Warner.

Warner postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mercy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Warner, into his guard.
Warner wants to sweep but no luck.

Mercy gets to his feet - Warner follows without any prompting.
Jordi Warner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mercy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Warner, pushing him back against the cage.
Sebastian Mercy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Warner misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mercy.
Mercy takes an elbow to the temple.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jordi Warner showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mercy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
