PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Corpus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ortiz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I am a real American. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Randy Ortiz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Corpus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Randy Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortiz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Corpus swivels and escapes.
Ortiz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Corpus as he jumps to the side.
Randy Ortiz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ortiz shoots in but Corpus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
John Corpus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randy Ortiz.

Ortiz dives in and scores a takedown into Corpus's guard.
Corpus is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ortiz is controlling him.
Ortiz advances position into side control!

Ortiz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Corpus sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Nice sprawl there from Corpus as Ortiz shoots in.
Ortiz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Corpus sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ortiz somewhat.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Randy Ortiz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ortiz throws a nice looking combination but Corpus bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ortiz has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Ortiz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Corpus.
Ortiz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ortiz darts in looking for a takedown but Corpus gets double underhooks and turns Ortiz into the cage.

Ortiz tightens his grip and picks Corpus up, before dumping him to the ground. Corpus manages to land in guard.
Corpus wants to stand but Ortiz is controlling the position.

Ortiz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ortiz is defended easily by Corpus.
Ortiz looks for a takedown but Corpus sprawls well.

Ortiz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Corpus manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Corpus has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ortiz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Ortiz is trying to force a seperation but Corpus has the dominant position.
Ortiz stops a takedown attempt from Corpus.
Corpus is trying to drag Ortiz to the mat but Ortiz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Ortiz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Ortiz wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ortiz tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Corpus's elbow.

Ortiz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Corpus gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Randy Ortiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown but Corpus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Corpus slaps away a takedown attempt from Ortiz, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Ortiz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Corpus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Corpus is looking to stand up but Ortiz isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Randy Ortiz.
Corpus displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ortiz.

and Corpus counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Corpus would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ortiz is on top in guard.
Corpus might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ortiz looking to sit in guard and control but Corpus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Randy Ortiz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ortiz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
