PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rafal Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Conroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wallace comes to the ring accompanied by Sandaless - Wojownik. Conroy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms. Rafal Wallace could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Edward Conroy's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rafal Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Conroy!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conroy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Wallace closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wallace lands in his opponent's guard.
Wallace throwing strikes but missing.
Wallace stopping the sweep attempt from Conroy.
Wallace trying to control but Conroy is working from the bottom.
Conroy looking for a sweep. Not yet Conroy, not yet.
Wallace is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Tokyo Totally Gym + Sauna that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Conroy is trying to keep Wallace in close.

Conroy wants to sweep here but Wallace controlling him for the moment.

Wallace throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Conroy works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Conroy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Conroy prevents Wallace from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Conroy thows a huge punch but Wallace dodges it nicely.
Wallace has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Conroy is working away from the top position though.
Conroy passes to full mount!
Conroy cracks Wallace with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Conroy has hold of Wallace's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wallace manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Conroy prevents Wallace from getting the reversal.
Conroy can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wallace is looking to escape.

Conroy is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Wallace has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Wallace!
Wallace throws a strike but Conroy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Conroy stands up and waves to Wallace to follow him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Conroy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Conroy lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Edward Conroy will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Wallace drives through with a takedown into guard.

Wallace postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Conroy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wallace, into his guard.
Conroy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Conroy gets to his feet - Wallace follows without any prompting.

Wallace looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Conroy!
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Conroy is not content to let Wallace control the position.

Wallace goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Conroy has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Wallace but great work by Conroy.
Conroy passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Wallace!
Conroy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wallace looks a forlorn figure.
Conroy lands with some strikes.

Wallace defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Conroy.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Wallace sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Conroy wants to take a breather but Wallace is having none of it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Ground and pound from Conroy.

Conroy postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Wallace to stand up.

Wallace closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Conroy is controlling Wallace's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Conroy actively working from the bottom here.
Conroy moves into full guard.
Wallace is looking to pass into half guard but Conroy pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Conroy is in guard.
Conroy trying to control the position from guard on top but Wallace is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Conroy drops back looking for a leg! Wallace is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wallace manages to kick Conroy off! Conroy jumps back into Wallace's guard.
Edward Conroy has got the better of the ground game so far.
Conroy chips away with some ground and pound.
Conroy is in close to Wallace's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Conroy postures up in Wallace's guard and throws a big left but Wallace blocks it.

Conroy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wallace is keeping the position for now.

Wallace can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Conroy controls the pace.
Conroy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Wallace is trying to control Conroy's posture but Conroy avoids it.
Wallace takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Conroy sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Wallace is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Conroy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Wallace manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Wallace is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Conroy is looking to improve his position.
Wallace is keen to just control but Conroy is a slippery customer.

Conroy wants to control but Wallace is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Conroy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Conroy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Conroy.
Conroy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Conroy lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Wallace is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Conroy dives into side control.

Conroy is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wallace has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wallace is looking for a sweep.
Conroy tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Wallace is looking to regain half guard here but Conroy keeps moving and retains side control.
Conroy throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Conroy wants to control but Wallace is keeping him busy.
Conroy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wallace is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Conroy lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Wallace taking punishment in the form of punches.

Conroy is looking to take a break and control but Wallace is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wallace gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Conroy sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Edward Conroy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Conroy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
