Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Irvin Potter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bruce Williams! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams tries to sprawl but Potter drives through with a takedown into half guard. Williams is trying to maintain the position but Potter is very close to passing his half guard. Potter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Potter decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Williams manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Potter on his heels. He'll look to pass Potter's guard now, I'm sure. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Williams wants to stand and escape but instead Potter has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Potter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Potter showing good wrestling skills to control the position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
That's one minute gone in the round. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth. Williams trying to strike off his back.
Williams is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Potter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Irvin Potter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Williams clinches with his opponent.
Williams wants the takedown. Potter is fighting it off but Williams persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Potter's guard against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Potter trying to keep a closed guard but Williams is proving a slippery customer.
Potter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Williams is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Potter has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Williams is looking to defend but Potter has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Williams! Potter pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Williams taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Irvin Potter!
