Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leroy Mckenzie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Strong Belwas! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belwas throws an ugly left hook that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Mckenzie swats away the attempt to clinch by Belwas. Belwas misses with a series of wild punches.
Mckenzie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mckenzie slips under a jab. Mckenzie misses with a takedown and Belwas counters with a takedown into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Belwas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mckenzie will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Belwas working the ground and pound. Belwas lands a few punches from side control. Belwas working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Belwas lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mckenzie down.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Belwas creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Belwas content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mckenzie taking punishment in the form of punches.
Mckenzie takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Mckenzie is rocked! Belwas cracks Mckenzie with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Belwas immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Mckenzie is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Belwas!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Strong Belwas!
