PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Queen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romano Redz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Queen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Romano Redz!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Queen tries to clinch up.
Queen moves in looking to clinch but Redz pushes him off.
Redz throws a lazy right hand but Queen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Redz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Queen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Redz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Redz.
Redz wants to pass the guard but Queen is keeping the position.
Redz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Redz stands and throws Queen's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Redz is trying to get an arm triangle but Queen is defending well.

Queen tries to bench press Redz off him but Redz keeps the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We've been hearing good reports from Queen's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Queen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Redz asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Queen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Queen is trying to control. Redz wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Queen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Redz felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

BOOM! Redz connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Redz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Queen is looking to escape.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Redz has control of Queen's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Queen regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Queen's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Redz thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Redz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Queen trying desperately to get to his feet.
Redz looking to control but Queen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Queen is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Redz goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Queen turns into him and now he's in Redz's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Redz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Queen throws a strike but Redz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Romano Redz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
