The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cryer misses with a two punch combination.
Cryer wants to clinch up but Skantze Jr keeps it at a distance.

Cryer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cryer postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cryer decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cryer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Skantze Jr manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Skantze Jr throws a series of punches but Cryer avoids them all with ease.

Cryer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Skantze Jr swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cryer is defended easily by Skantze Jr.

Skantze Jr gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Cryer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Cryer working his ground and pound in the gym.

Skantze Jr bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cryer's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Skantze Jr wants to stand but Cryer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Skantze Jr drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cryer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cryer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cryer!
Skantze Jr can't do much from the bottom here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Cryer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Skantze Jr knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Cryer is looking to take a break and control but Skantze Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Cryer is trying to trip Skantze Jr. He has hold of a leg but Skantze Jr is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Cryer persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Cryer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Skantze Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cryer has managed to get both his arms back between Skantze Jr's legs - danger averted.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ashton Cryer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Skantze Jr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cryer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cryer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Skantze Jr is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Cryer frees his head nicely. Oh but Skantze Jr has switched to an armbar! Cryer is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
