Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Madison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leif Carroll!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madison has his takedown stuffed

and Carroll counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Carroll thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Madison's head.

Madison looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Madison is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carroll missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Madison moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Madison looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carroll missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Madison working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carroll doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carroll manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Madison will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Madison is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Carroll defends well.

Madison is looking for a triangle but Carroll pushes his legs off easily.
Carroll should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Carroll got a little sloppy there for a moment and Madison has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carroll has managed to get both his arms back between Madison's legs - danger averted.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Carroll's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carroll lands a couple of elbows.
Carroll must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Madison utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Madison is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Madison escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carroll gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Madison is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Carroll frees his head nicely. Oh but Madison has switched to an armbar! Carroll is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Joe Madison!
