Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samson Miodek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stig Helmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miodek's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Radioactive. Stig Helmer has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Samson Miodek! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stig Helmer! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miodek misses with a hook
and Helmer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like Samson Miodek has been cut. Helmer moves out of range of the body kick. Miodek throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Miodek looks to throw the jab but Helmer is out of range. Helmer has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Miodek is landing a low percentage of strikes. Miodek darts in and clinches Helmer up against the cage. Miodek misses with a body punch.

Miodek throws a head punch that misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Miodek tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Miodek prevents Helmer from breaking the clinch. Helmer tries to break the clinch but Miodek is controlling the position. Miodek is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Helmer is keeping busy. Miodek misses with some punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Miodek dips to his left and cracks Helmer with an uppercut!
It looks like Stig Helmer has been cut. Helmer stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Miodek. Miodek lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Nice shot by Helmer. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Helmer fails with the takedown and Helmer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Helmer takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Miodek steps into range and cracks Helmer with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Helmer flops backwards and Miodek dives into his guard looking to finish!
Helmer is rocked! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Miodek controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Miodek trying to control the position from guard on top but Helmer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Helmer holds on and takes a little breather. Miodek content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Miodek trying to control but Helmer is working from the bottom. Helmer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Miodek is aware though and is defending well. Miodek landing some decent shots from guard. Miodek stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Helmer swivels though and keeps the full guard. Miodek is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Miodek postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We're going to have a standup here because Samson Miodek wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Helmer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Miodek looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Miodek scores with a shot to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Miodek trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Miodek throws a big right hand that misses. Miodek has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Helmer is pulling down on Miodek's head to control his posture. Miodek showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Miodek makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Miodek passes into half guard. Miodek not landing any meaningful shots this time. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Helmer is looking for a sweep. Miodek is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Miodek takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Samson Miodek dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Samson Miodek overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Helmer throws a big elbow that misses. Miodek looking to control.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Helmer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Helmer prevents Miodek from getting back to his feet.

Helmer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miodek works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Helmer pushes down on Miodek's leg and manages to get into half guard. Helmer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Helmer throwing shots but Miodek is blocking nicely. Miodek is trying to get back to full guard. Helmer is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Stig Helmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's time! Miodek's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Helmer misses the jab. Helmer rushes Miodek and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Miodek working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Miodek lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Helmer is not content to let Miodek control the position. Miodek thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Helmer's head. Miodek is thwarting Helmer's attempts to control the position. Miodek stalling away here and it's allowed Helmer to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. That's one minute gone in the round. Helmer has control of Miodek's left arm, preventing Miodek from doing any damage. Miodek stays in close to Helmer's body and controls the position.

Helmer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Miodek is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Miodek throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Helmer lands with a short shot to the head. A battle for position here, against the cage. Helmer is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Miodek can't fight it off and eventually Helmer manages to take the fight to the floor. Miodek looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Miodek working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Helmer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Helmer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Miodek is trying to keep Helmer in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miodek is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. That's four minutes gone in the round. Miodek tries to land a sweep but no joy. Helmer is pushing down on Miodek's leg trying to pass to half guard. Miodek is fighting to maintain full guard but Helmer has managed to sneak the leg through. Miodek gets back to full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Helmer throws a big elbow that misses.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Samson Miodek. Well Miodek has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
