The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Granger shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pope as he avoids it easily.
Pope scores with a nice right hand.
Granger blocks a head kick by Pope.
Granger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pope sprawls well. Pope wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Granger gets slowly back to his feet.
Pope misses with a leg kick.
Granger shoots for a takedown but Pope saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Granger has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jan Pope hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Granger closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pope did well to prevent Granger getting side control.

Well, if Granger is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Granger is looking to take a break and control but Pope is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pope really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Granger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pope makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Granger shoots for a double leg takedown but Pope sprawls well. He's pushed Granger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Granger takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Pope leaves Granger with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Granger shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pope but Pope pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pope has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Pope uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Granger has time to react.

Granger has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Pope finds it's way round the side to connect with Granger's head.
Granger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pope sprawls well. Pope wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Granger gets slowly back to his feet.
Pope keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Granger uses his free foot to push down on Pope's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pope.

Granger has control of Pope's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Pope regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Granger had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pope defends it easily.
Pope must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Granger is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Pope looks calm but he's in trouble here. Granger gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Pope is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Granger lets go of the hold and Pope can pop his arm back in it's socket.
