Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kev Baylis! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stan Up! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Darius Henderson and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Up misses with a wild combination.
Baylis throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Up misses with the combination.
Baylis throws a hook but Up avoids it easily. Baylis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Up manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Up misses with a two punch combination.
Baylis tries to clinch up but Up circles away and keeps his distance. Baylis looks to land a left hand but Up moved out of range nicely. Up drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Up will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Up tries to bum rush Baylis with a series of wild strikes but Baylis uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Stan Up is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Baylis misses with a hook. Up ducked under it nicely. Baylis tries to clinch but Up is having none of it. Baylis fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Up throws a right hand that Baylis ducks under and follows up with a left that Baylis also avoids with ease.

Up's coach down at Finch Farm was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Up's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Baylis tries a head kick but it misses.

Baylis eats them both and turns towards Up to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Baylis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Baylis fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Baylis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Up can't fight it off and eventually Baylis manages to take the fight to the floor. Up looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Baylis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Up is keeping the position for now. Up takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Up wants to stand and escape but Baylis is having none of it.

Baylis looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Baylis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Up does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Up tries to kick Baylis off in order to stand up. Baylis Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Up really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baylis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Baylis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Up is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Baylis advances to full mount. Baylis lands a heavy elbow. Baylis wants to control the pace but Up is squirming around nicely. Baylis is really struggling to control Up but he's trying to hold on to the position. Baylis thowing shots but they're missing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Up is squirming around, avoiding Baylis's attempts to control the action. Baylis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Up is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Up can do anything to dispel that myth. Baylis misses with a head shot. Baylis landing strikes, looking to finish! You get the feeling that Up really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baylis jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Up manages to avoid the submission attempt. Baylis has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Up! Baylis trying to control but Up is having none of it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Up wants to try and get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
