Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Horacio Barnard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Caliph James! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barnard misses with a takedown attempt and James holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. James scores with a knee to the head.
It looks like Horacio Barnard has been cut. Stalling in the clinch from James.
James lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Barnard wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Barnard trying to stall but James improves his position.
James on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
James creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Barnard's defenses. James holding his opponent close, against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage. James lands with a short shot to the head. The referee calls for James to work.
James crunches a lovely knee into Barnard's ribcage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Barnard throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but James blocks it with crossed arms. James's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Knees to the body from James.
Barnard is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. James with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. James jerks Barnard's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Barnard drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! James goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from James because Barnard was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee). Caliph James! Caliph James decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
