Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leo Howe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pawel Nowak! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Igor Prikhodko and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nowak moves in looking to clinch but Howe pushes him off. Nowak wants to clinch but Howe slips to the side and Howe counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Howe. Howe is pushing Nowak up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Howe tries to pull guard but Nowak forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Come on Howe - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Nowak wants to get back to striking at distance but Howe won't allow it.
Nowak wants to break free but Howe has control.
Howe is trying to maintain a safe position but Nowak gets an underhook and turns Howe into the cage. Nowak is trying to push Howe away but Howe has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. A frustrated look appears on Howe's face as he tries to break the clinch. Howe has Nowak pressed against the cage, preventing Nowak from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howe slows down the pace here.
Howe keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Nowak's efforts to push away. Nowak wants to break free but Howe has control.
Howe keeps control of Nowak as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Nowak tries to break free but Howe pushes him back against the cage. Howe will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Nowak up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nowak's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Howe shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Howe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howe seems to be looking for submissions.
Howe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Howe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Howe lands a nice short elbow. Nowak really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Howe slips a nice elbow through Nowak's hands, connecting with Nowak's forehead. Howe in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Nowak tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Howe!
