PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock has chosen Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue as his entrance music. Chuck Shamrock will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shinichi drops his hands momentarily and Shamrock takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Shamrock throws a nice looking combination but Shinichi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Shinichi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Shamrock blocks a low kick nicely.
Shamrock scores with a body shot.

Shamrock closes the distance and pushes Shinichi back into the cage.

Shamrock breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shamrock misses the jab.
Shinichi dives in and grabs Shamrock's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shamrock pushes down on Shinichi's head and hops out.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Shamrock!
Shinichi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Shamrock.

Shamrock moves into the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Shinichi.
Shinichi with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Shamrock tries to circle away but Shinichi has him pinned against the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Shamrock as Shinichi tries to tie him up.
Shinichi has Shamrock pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Shamrock manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shamrock stops a takedown attempt from Shinichi.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akiyama Shinichi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shinichi is pushing Shamrock up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shamrock misses with a punch to the body.

Shamrock manages to break the clinch.
Shamrock lands with a right hand.
Shinichi tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Shamrock throws a good cross that connects.
Shamrock misses with a lunging right hand

and Shinichi counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Shamrock!
Shamrock is not content to let Shinichi control the position.

Shinichi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shamrock has escaped the position, nice work there.
Shinichi working away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock is trying to get back to half guard.
Shinichi wants to control but Shamrock is keeping him busy.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shinichi has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Shinichi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shamrock is looking to escape.
Shamrock tries to hold on but Shinichi pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shinichi wants to control the pace but Shamrock is squirming around nicely.

Shinichi has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Shamrock is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Akiyama Shinichi!
A less than humble Akiyama Shinichi misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
