PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chance Watkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Schulze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chance Watkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Schulze!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schulze lands a high kick!
Watkins shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Watkins defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Schulze.
Watkins shoots in for a double leg but Schulze sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Schulze lands with a hook. Watkins tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Schulze tries to clinch but Watkins moves out of range.
Schulze tries to score a power double leg takedown but Watkins sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Schulze somewhat.

Watkins closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Watkins lands in his opponent's guard.
Watkins wanted to stand there but Schulze had control of the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Watkins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Watkins trying to control but Schulze is working from the bottom.
Schulze is looking to stand up but Watkins isn't so interested in that idea.
Watkins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Watkins is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We're going to have a standup here because Chance Watkins wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Schulze doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Watkins counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Chance Watkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Schulze.
Watkins is trying to pull guard but Schulze has him pressed against the cage.

Schulze is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Watkins pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Watkins tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Schulze just stands there and leans against the cage.
Schulze drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Watkins gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Watkins drops back looking for a leg! Schulze is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Schulze manages to kick Watkins off! Watkins jumps back into Schulze's guard.
Schulze wants to stand but Watkins is controlling the position.
Schulze looks winded!

Schulze is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Watkins is aware though and is defending well.
Watkins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Watkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Schulze is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Schulze has a closed guard, preventing Watkins from standing up.
Watkins working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Chance Watkins has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Schulze closes the distance and clinches up with Watkins, looking for a takedown. Schulze pushes Watkins against the cage but Watkins circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A head kick from Schulze lands but Watkins takes it in his stride.
Schulze moves out of range of the strikes.

Watkins shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Schulze is trying to defend but Watkins finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Still in half guard, Watkins seems content to control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

enabling Watkins to counter with a crisp jab.
Chance Watkins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Watkins takes a shot to the body in his stride.

and Watkins counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Watkins.

Schulze's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Schulze shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Watkins as he jumps to the side.

Schulze fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Watkins avoids it really well and circles away.

and Watkins holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Watkins lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Schulze!

Watkins working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Watkins cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Schulze defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Watkins.

Schulze tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Watkins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Schulze sprawls well initially but Watkins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Watkins working the head and body with strikes.
Schulze trying to control from the bottom.
Chance Watkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Watkins is working for a submission of some sort.
Schulze is not content to let Watkins control the position.

Watkins wants to work for an arm triangle but Schulze is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Schulze tries to roll over but Watkins keeps him under control.
