Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sherwood Walsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nico Avecilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Nico Avecilla enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sherwood Walsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nico Avecilla!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avecilla bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Avecilla.
Avecilla throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Walsh leaves Avecilla with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Avecilla shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Walsh closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Avecilla did well to prevent Walsh getting side control.

Walsh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Avecilla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Walsh stands up from half guard.
Avecilla is looking to clinch.
Avecilla thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Walsh if he has to take too many more of those.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walsh takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Walsh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Walsh wants it to stay on the feet.
Sherwood Walsh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nico Avecilla.
Avecilla looks winded!
Avecilla fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nico Avecilla seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walsh stuffs the takedown.

Walsh darts in and clinches Avecilla up against the cage.
Walsh jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Avecilla walks away with a smile on his face. Walsh gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Avecilla has a takedown stuffed.
Walsh misses with a takedown attempt - Avecilla sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Walsh shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Avecilla throws a sloppy head kick and Walsh moves out of range easily.

Walsh scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Avecilla is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walsh is taking a breather. Avecilla says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Walsh stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Avecilla to get to his feet.
Avecilla doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Walsh makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walsh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Avecilla as he jumps to the side.
Nice sprawl there from Avecilla as Walsh shoots in.
Walsh tries to clinch but Avecilla moves out of range.
Avecilla throws a head kick but Walsh moves out of range.
Walsh digs a good body shot into Avecilla's ribs.

Walsh clinches up against the cage.
Walsh jumps guard but Avecilla turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Avecilla is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Walsh is defending well.

Walsh has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Avecilla regains guard immediately.
Walsh is stalling in the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Avecilla wants to improve his position but instead Walsh has moved into half guard.
Avecilla wants to get back to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Walsh postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Avecilla to stand up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walsh fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Avecilla misses with a hook
and Walsh counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walsh wants to clinch.
Walsh throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Avecilla's waist but Avecilla gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Walsh off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Walsh avoids a kick to the body.
Walsh checks a low kick from Avecilla.
The fight stays on the outside here - Avecilla looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Avecilla throws a sloppy head kick
and Walsh counters with an inside leg kick.
Avecilla throws a head kick but Walsh moves out of range.
Walsh shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Avecilla defends it nicely.
Walsh tries to close the distance and clinch but Avecilla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Avecilla lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Walsh circles away quickly and effectively.

The fight stays on the outside here - Walsh looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Avecilla is breathing heavily.

Walsh closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Avecilla is trying to get back to half guard.

Walsh is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Avecilla knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Walsh decides to stand back up. Walsh steps back and let's Avecilla get back to his feet.
A head kick misses from Avecilla.
Nico Avecilla seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Walsh shoots for a takedown but Avecilla saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Walsh looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Walsh wants to control but Avecilla is keeping him busy.

Avecilla tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Walsh has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Walsh has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Avecilla tries to improve his position but instead Walsh has taken his back!
Walsh has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Avecilla's body.
Avecilla is keeping busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walsh has the hooks in. Avecilla is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Walsh is looking to control Avecilla but Avecilla is wriggling around and keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Walsh's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Avecilla is looking to clinch.
Avecilla throws a right and a left that Walsh avoids nicely.
Avecilla leaves Walsh with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Walsh avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Avecilla thows a body kick. Walsh tries to catch it but that hurt him.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Walsh crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Avecilla - the referee stops the clock and Walsh gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Avecilla. Walsh manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Avecilla throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Avecilla is defended easily by Walsh.
Walsh avoids a punch combination nicely.
Avecilla takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nice sprawl there from Avecilla as Walsh shoots in.

Avecilla misses with a combination
and Walsh counters with a two punch combo.
Walsh tries to score a power double leg takedown but Avecilla sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Walsh somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sherwood Walsh. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Walsh decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Walsh seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Walsh's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Avecilla is looking for a sweep. Walsh is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Walsh scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Avecilla is looking to improve his position.

Walsh stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Walsh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Avecilla as he avoids it easily.
Walsh closes this distance looking for a takedown but Avecilla circles away.
Avecilla throws a wild body kick that Walsh sees coming a mile off.
Avecilla misses with a body kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Avecilla instigates a clinch.
Walsh on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Nico Avecilla has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Walsh successfully pulls guard.
Sherwood Walsh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Walsh is trying to control the position but Avecilla postures up.
Walsh is really struggling to control Avecilla but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Avecilla passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Avecilla thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Avecilla sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Walsh is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Walsh manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Avecilla is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sherwood Walsh.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walsh, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
