PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mats Thoreson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Clegane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Clegane's choice of entrance music: Vader- sword of the witcher. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Gregory Clegane!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thoreson connects with the punch.
Clegane wants to clinch up but Thoreson keeps it at a distance.
Clegane tries to clinch up.
Gregory Clegane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thoreson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Thoreson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Thoreson walks into a stiff left hand from Clegane.
Thoreson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Clegane.
Thoreson shoots in looking for a takedown but Clegane manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thoreson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Thoreson seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Clegane doesn't manage to clinch there - Thoreson circles away.
Clegane fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Thoreson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Clegane looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Thoreson is looking to take a break and control but Clegane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Clegane can do anything to dispel that myth.
Clegane gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Clegane tries to get to full guard but Thoreson has control of the leg.

Thoreson throws a strike but Clegane avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Thoreson wants to pass the guard but Clegane is keeping the position.
Thoreson passes Clegane's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Thoreson is looking to take a break and control but Clegane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Thoreson is looking to stall here but Clegane recovers full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thoreson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Thoreson wants to control from the top but Clegane keeps moving.
Thoreson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Clegane is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Thoreson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Clegane is keeping the position for now.

Thoreson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Thoreson passes into half guard.
Thoreson trying to control from half guard but Clegane is working away.
Thoreson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Clegane reverses the position - he's now on top in Thoreson's guard.

Thoreson looking for a guillotine here but Clegane defends easily.

Thoreson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Clegane is aware though and is defending well.

Clegane is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Thoreson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Clegane defends it easily.
Thoreson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
My spies in Soul Supremacy - UK inform me that Clegane has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Thoreson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Clegane avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Thoreson has momentary wrist control but Clegane slips an elbow through the middle.
Clegane keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Thoreson's head.
Thoreson is trying to control the position but Clegane postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gregory Clegane will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Thoreson leaves Clegane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Clegane closes the distance and clinches.
Clegane lands a nice uppercut.
Clegane lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Still in the clinch, Clegane scores with a nice short uppercut.
Clegane lands with a right to the head.
Clegane tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Thoreson avoids it.
Clegane lands a left hand that snaps the head of Thoreson backwards.
Thoreson is trying to pull guard but Clegane turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Clegane prevents a takedown attempt there.
A short right from Clegane on the inside.
Thoreson is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mats Thoreson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Thoreson.
Clegane lands a hook that snaps the head of Thoreson backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thoreson is rocked!

Thoreson is working for takedown but Clegane is calmly controlling the position for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Thoreson wants to get back to striking at distance but Clegane won't allow it.
Clegane lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Thoreson backwards.
Oh Thoreson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Thoreson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Clegane avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Clegane controlling the position using the Thai clinch, unloads with a massive knee! Boom! He's out cold and slumps to the floor against the cage! I can't wait to see the slow motion replay of that one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Gregory Clegane!
Gregory Clegane decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
