Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tod Riggs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Abi Bala! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bala gets caught napping as Riggs dives in and scores a takedown. Bala manages to retain guard. Riggs lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Bala has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Riggs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Bala wants to get back to his feet but Riggs is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bala not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bala looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bala is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Riggs won't allow Bala to sweep him here. Bala is trying to control the position but Riggs postures up. Bala working for submissions but it's allowed Riggs to get to half guard.
Bala pushes Riggs off looking to stand but Riggs dives back in and keeps control.
Riggs not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Riggs slows the pace down in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bala wants to improve his position but Riggs is controlling well.
Bala is trying to control but can't.
Bala tries to roll over but Riggs keeps him under control. Riggs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Riggs moves into the clinch. Riggs breaks the clinch.
Bala gets caught flat footed, as Riggs shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Bala looks winded!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Riggs landing some decent shots from guard. Riggs throws a big right hand that misses. Riggs wants to get up but he can't break Bala's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Bala wants to stand but Riggs is controlling the position. Bala trying to keep a closed guard but Riggs is proving a slippery customer.
Riggs chips away with some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Riggs tries to stand but Bala is controlling from the bottom. Riggs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bala on the ground. Riggs sitting in guard, not really doing much. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Bala tries a head kick but it misses.
Riggs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Riggs moves into the clinch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Bala is looking to break free of the clinch but Riggs has double underhooks. Riggs avoiding damage as Bala throws knees to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tod Riggs dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Riggs shoots in and bounces Bala off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Riggs stands and steps away. Bala gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Bala with a lazy takedown attempt and Riggs holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Bala wants to get back to striking at distance but Riggs won't allow it.
Riggs breaks from the clinch.
Bala stuns Riggs with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Bala forces Riggs back against the cage and clinches. Riggs escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bala doesn't succeed with the takedown and Riggs moves into the clinch. Bala is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bala on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
A short uppercut from Riggs. Bala is fighting off a takedown attempt but Riggs is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Bala to the mat. Bala regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Riggs lands a couple of decent looking shots. Bala wants to improve his position but instead Riggs has moved into half guard.
Riggs lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Bala on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Tod Riggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riggs trying to control the pace. Riggs seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Bala avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Riggs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Riggs stops Bala from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Riggs keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Abi Bala was stalling too much, according to the referee. Bala fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Riggs, pushing him back against the cage. Riggs jumps into guard, dragging Bala to the mat.
Bala stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Riggs swivels though and keeps the full guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Riggs holds on and takes a little breather.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Riggs wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Tod Riggs wasn't doing enough on the ground. Riggs has taken the fight to the clinch.
Riggs gets control of Bala's arms and successfully pulls guard. Riggs will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Riggs is pulling down on Bala's head. It's preventing any offense from Bala, at least for the moment. Riggs's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bala trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. This has been an exciting period of action! Bala looking to pass the guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tod Riggs dominated that second round. That's time! Riggs's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Riggs rushes Bala and presses him up against the cage. Riggs pulls guard. Riggs is controlling Bala's posture. Bala preventing the sweep. Riggs pulls Bala in close to prevent any damage. Bala trying to control the position from guard on top but Riggs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Riggs has his hands on Bala's head, controlling the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tod Riggs. Bala doesn't succeed with the takedown and Riggs counters with a takedown into side control. Bala takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Riggs gets to mount! Bala was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Bala tries to hold on but Riggs pushes him away. Bala is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Riggs lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Riggs with shots to the head and body - Bala looks very uncomfortable down there. Bala tries to hold on but Riggs pushes him away. Bala in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Riggs lands a big elbow. Bala is working to get back to half guard.
Riggs content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Riggs is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Bala is in real trouble.

And that's the end of the fight! Tod Riggs showed his dominance in that final round. Well Riggs has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
