Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sean Rodriguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Clayton Bigsby! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bigsby drives through with a takedown into Rodriguez's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Bigsby controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Bigsby trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Rodriguez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bigsby engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Rodriguez wants to sweep here but Bigsby controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Clayton Bigsby wasn't active enough on the ground. Rodriguez dodges the punch combination from Bigsby.
Rodriguez gets caught napping as Bigsby dives in and scores a takedown. Rodriguez manages to retain guard. Bigsby has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bigsby wants to pass the guard but Rodriguez is keeping the position. Rodriguez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bigsby on the ground. Bigsby is looking to work some ground and pound but Rodriguez has wrist control. Bigsby trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rodriguez's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rodriguez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Bigsby looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Rodriguez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bigsby. Bigsby seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Bigsby's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sean Rodriguez has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Rodriguez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bigsby scores with a counter punch that sends Rodriguez to the canvas! Bigsby smells blood - he's punishing Rodriguez with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Rodriguez has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
