PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alan Sansing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Untaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Untaka comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Thomas Untaka will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alan Sansing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Untaka!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Untaka stuffs the takedown.
Untaka stuffs the takedown attempt from Sansing. Sansing gets slowly back to his feet.
Sansing dives in for a single leg takedown but Untaka sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alan Sansing. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Untaka goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sansing prevents it.
I was talking to Sansing's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Untaka has hold of one of Sansing's legs. Sansing is fighting the takedown attempt but Untaka gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Untaka got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sansing has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Untaka has managed to get both his arms back between Sansing's legs - danger averted.

Sansing is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Untaka drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Untaka jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sansing can't keep his opponent in guard - Untaka advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sansing gets back to full guard.
Sansing is trying to keep Untaka in close.
Sansing manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Untaka tries to hold on but Sansing postures up.

Untaka is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sansing throws some wild stikes that Untaka manages to avoid easily.

Sansing working for a submission but Untaka is keeping him at bay.

Sansing can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Untaka is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sansing throwing strikes here but Untaka is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Sansing looking to ground and pound but Untaka is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sansing wants to control the pace but Untaka is squirming around nicely.

Sansing is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Untaka can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Untaka regains half guard.
Sansing missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Untaka wants to get back to full guard.
Untaka keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sansing lands a nice short elbow.
Untaka has his hands clasped together around Sansing's back. He's all about the action.
Untaka pushes Sansing off looking to stand but Sansing dives back in and keeps control.
Sansing missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sansing is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sansing prevents Untaka from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Sansing dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Untaka goes for a double leg but Sansing avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sansing continues to drive forward.
Untaka has Sansing pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sansing manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sansing is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Alan Sansing has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Untaka.

Sansing wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Untaka has him pressed against the cage.

Untaka tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sansing has had enough of the clinch but Untaka keeps him there for the moment.
Sansing is pressed up against the cage. Untaka has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sansing down to the mat. Sansing avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Sansing looking to hit a scissor sweep but Untaka is one step ahead there.

Untaka wants to pass the guard but Sansing is keeping the position.

Untaka avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sansing keeping moving, preventing Untaka from controlling successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Thomas Untaka hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Sansing tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Untaka paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Sansing throws a predictable looking body shot

and Untaka counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sansing!

Untaka wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sansing keeps working.
Sansing can't do much from the bottom here.
Sansing gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Sansing wants to get back to full guard.

Sansing is trying is best to control the position here.
Untaka is stalling here. Sansing is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Untaka seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sansing has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Sansing wants to lay and pray for a moment but Untaka keeps working.
Untaka is holding Sansing down, trying to stall.
Alan Sansing overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sansing tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sansing has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Thomas Untaka will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Untaka shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sansing but Sansing pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Sansing working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Untaka's thigh. Untaka counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Sansing working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Untaka's head.

Sansing throws a big elbow that misses.

Untaka is controlling Sansing's posture.
Sansing wants to control from the top but Untaka keeps moving.
Sansing scoring with punches to the head and body.
Sansing throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Untaka works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sansing works over Untaka with some ground and pound from guard.

Untaka keeping full guard, as Sansing tries to pass.

Sansing drops back, looking for a kneebar! Untaka looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Untaka looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Untaka!

Sansing tries to buck Untaka off but Untaka is having none of it.

Untaka is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sansing has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sansing manages to get back to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sansing makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sansing.

Untaka wants to control from the top but Sansing keeps moving.

Untaka has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Sansing to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Untaka is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Sansing pulls down on the head and he's put Untaka to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Alan Sansing!
Alan Sansing decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
