PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kid Diddler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerald Minor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerald Minor told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kid Diddler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gerald Minor!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minor looks to land a left hand but Diddler moved out of range nicely.
A punch combination from Minor misses.

Minor shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Minor showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, if Minor is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Diddler is refusing to be controlled, as Minor sits in half guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Diddler's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Minor frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Minor looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Minor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Minor trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Minor has hold of Diddler's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diddler manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Diddler can't escape the position.
Diddler is breathing heavily.
Minor controlling from the full mount.
Minor tries to control but Diddler wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Minor controlling the position easily from mount.
Minor trying to control but Diddler is having none of it.

Gerald Minor has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Minor tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Diddler paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Minor throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Diddler gets a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diddler tightens his grip and picks Minor up, before dumping him to the ground. Minor manages to land in guard.
Minor pulls Diddler in to control the position.

Diddler avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Minor keeping moving, preventing Diddler from controlling successfully.
Minor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Diddler manages to get himself to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diddler can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Minor controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Minor tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diddler manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Diddler is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Minor feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Diddler doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Minor slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Minor trying to control the position from guard on top but Diddler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gerald Minor was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Minor moves in looking to clinch but Diddler pushes him off.
Minor avoids the body shot from Diddler.
Minor wants to clinch up but Diddler keeps it at a distance.
Minor misses with a kick to the body.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Diddler looks to throw the jab but Minor is out of range.
Minor dives in for a single leg takedown but Diddler sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Minor keeps control of Diddler as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Minor has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Diddler uses from the top position.
Minor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diddler is one step ahead there.
Minor has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kid Diddler wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Minor wants to clinch.

Minor drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Minor connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Diddler some visible discomfort.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diddler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gerald Minor has got the better of the ground game so far.

Minor working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Minor is staying tight to Diddler's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Let's hope that Minor has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gerald Minor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Minor postures up and lands a big shot to Diddler's brow.
Minor not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Minor postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Minor controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Diddler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Minor works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Minor is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Minor moves nicely into side control.

Minor is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diddler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Minor tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Minor has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Minor postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Minor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diddler keeps working.
Minor tries to score with some ground and pound. Diddler controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Minor crashes against the mat.
Minor trying to control the position but Diddler is working away.
Gerald Minor is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Minor controls the position from side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gerald Minor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Minor winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
