Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Kowalak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sergio Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis misses with a takedown

and Kowalak counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pettis's guard now.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Pettis trying to keep a closed guard but Kowalak is proving a slippery customer.
Kowalak wants to control from the top but Pettis keeps moving.
Kowalak wants to pass the guard but Pettis is keeping the position.
Kowalak trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kowalak avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Pettis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kowalak passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Kowalak tries to score with some ground and pound. Pettis controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Pettis is looking for a sweep.
Pettis gets back to half guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Kowalak's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Kowalak is working for a submission of some sort.

Pettis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pettis.
Pettis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Kowalak trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kowalak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kowalak is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pettis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kowalak postures up.
Kowalak passes into half guard.
Kowalak wants to control but Pettis is keeping him busy.

Kowalak is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pettis sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pettis tries to roll over but Kowalak keeps him under control.
Pettis misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kowalak wants to free his trapped foot but Pettis is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Pettis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kowalak's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kowalak's back!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Pettis's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Pettis is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Kowalak is tapping out! This one is all over!

After winning the bout, Sergio Pettis thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
