Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Keiji Kawada! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Barney Judge! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Kawada. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Kawada wants to control for a moment but Judge uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Kawada throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Kawada sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Judge defending well though. Kawada winds up and cracks Judge with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Kawada decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Judge throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kawada on the side of the head. Kawada shoots in for a double leg but Judge sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Judge has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Judge misses with a low kick. Kawada stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Judge. Judge misses with a leg kick and Kawada counters with an outside leg kick.

and Judge counters with a lovely straight right hand! Judge throws a quick inside leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawada tries to clinch but Judge is having none of it. No joy there for Judge, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Barney Judge is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Kawada looks for the body kick but Judge saw that one coming. Kawada gets the takedown into side control. Judge is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Kawada has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Judge slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Kawada throws a series of punches but Judge moves out of range. Kawada drives through with a takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Judge is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kawada trying to control the position from guard on top but Judge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Judge wants to get back to his feet but Kawada is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Kawada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Judge swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kawada stops Judge from standing up. Kawada wants to pass the guard but Judge is keeping the position. Judge really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kawada. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Judge escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kawada gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Kawada tries to free his leg and advance position but Judge is retaining full guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Judge can do anything to dispel that myth. Kawada trying to control but Judge is working from the bottom. Kawada gets to his feet - Judge follows without any prompting. Kawada wants to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Judge as he avoids it easily. Kawada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Judge but Judge pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keiji Kawada. That's going to take a lot out of him. Judge is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Barney Judge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Judge throws out a leg kick but Kawada moves out of range and Judge only half commits. Kawada tries to clinch up. Kawada is looking to clinch. A left and a right from Judge both land. Nice combination. Judge throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kawada. Kawada fails with an attempt to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kawada is defended easily by Judge. Judge darts in and clinches Kawada up against the cage. Judge breaks the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A shot to the liver by Judge. Beautiful body shot. Judge changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Judge looks to land a body kick but Kawada moved away. Judge stuffs the takedown attempt from Kawada. Kawada gets slowly back to his feet. Judge moves out of range of the body kick from Kawada.
Kawada instigates a clinch. Kawada drops down looking for an ankle pick but Judge pulls his leg out and moves away.
Judge throws a nice inside leg kick. Judge throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Judge tries to bum rush Kawada with a series of wild strikes but Kawada uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Kawada looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Kawada rushes Judge and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Kawada blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Kawada has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Judge is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Keiji Kawada will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Judge keeps Kawada at a distance using the push kick. Judge thows a leg kick but Kawada checks it and Kawada counters with a nice double leg into guard. Kawada is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Judge tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kawada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Judge swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kawada trying to control the position from guard on top but Judge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kawada lands a couple of decent looking shots. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kawada drops back looking for a leg! Judge is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Judge manages to kick Kawada off! Kawada jumps back into Judge's guard. Kawada got a little sloppy there for a moment and Judge has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kawada has managed to get both his arms back between Judge's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawada pushes down on Judge's leg and manages to get into half guard. Kawada is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Judge keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Judge preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Judge trying to hold on to Kawada's head to control him but Kawada postures up.
Kawada is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Keiji Kawada overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Judge is in trouble now - Kawada has advanced to mount! Kawada has isolated one of Judge's arms. Judge looking to fight him off but Kawada twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Keiji Kawada! A less than humble Keiji Kawada misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
