Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leo Spartan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gab Batista! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Batista with a lazy takedown attempt and Spartan counters with a series of strikes. Batista will be more careful next time no doubt. Spartan has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Batista misses the shot to the body. Batista fails with the takedown and Spartan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Batista digs a good hook to Spartan's body.

Batista has a takedown stuffed. Leo Spartan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gab Batista. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Batista throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spartan's waist but Spartan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Batista off to one side. Spartan moves into the clinch. Spartan tries to break free but Batista pushes him back against the cage. Spartan struggles to land a body shot inside as Batista controls his hands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Batista tries to pull guard but Spartan holds him up against the cage and eventually Batista drops back down to his feet.
Spartan decides to pull guard. Batista thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Spartan keeping full guard, as Batista tries to pass. Batista drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batista jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Batista trying to control the position from guard on top but Spartan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Batista is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Spartan tries to get out of the position. Batista passes easily into side control. Nice work. A lull in the action here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Batista thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Batista in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Spartan is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
