Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marvin Blackwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
15 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rermes Gracie!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blackwell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively.
Blackwell moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Blackwell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Blackwell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gracie takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Gracie darts in looking for a takedown but Blackwell gets double underhooks and turns Gracie into the cage.
Marvin Blackwell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rermes Gracie.
Gracie has Blackwell pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Blackwell manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Blackwell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Blackwell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Blackwell connects with a leg kick. Gracie looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Blackwell lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Blackwell. That snapped Gracie's head back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A nice inside leg kick there by Blackwell. That's going to slow Gracie down.
Blackwell seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Gracie on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Blackwell feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gracie's calf.
Blackwell turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Both fighters circling a little - Blackwell finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Gracie looks winded!
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt
and Blackwell counters with a thumping low kick.
Blackwell fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Gracie's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Blackwell connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Gracie scrambles back to his feet.
Gracie shoots in but no luck this time.
Blackwell fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Blackwell drops Gracie with a straight right hand, right on the button! Blackwell follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marvin Blackwell!
