PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Willy Wonka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wonka has chosen Mr Rotten Treats - Insane Clown Posse as his entrance music. Diego Sanchez has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Willy Wonka!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wonka throws a hook but Sanchez avoids it easily.
Sanchez throws a quick inside leg kick.
Sanchez digs a good hook to Wonka's body.
Sanchez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wonka sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Sanchez looks to land a right hand but Wonka moved out of range.
Wonka uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sanchez.
Wonka connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sanchez. Sanchez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Wonka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sanchez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Wonka fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sanchez sprawls well initially but Wonka persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Wonka looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Wonka seems to be working for a kimura but Sanchez defends the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wonka in particular looking to stall.
Wonka is pressing down on Sanchez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sanchez is holding on for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wonka tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sanchez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sanchez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wonka's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wonka's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wonka is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Sanchez.
Wonka is really stuck here.
Sanchez has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Wonka is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Wonka is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Sanchez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sanchez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sanchez controlling well, preventing Wonka from escaping the position.
Sanchez is not going to allow Wonka to sit and survive in this position.

You can see the frustration on Wonka's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That was a close round but I would say that Diego Sanchez will probably get the nod.

Wonka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sanchez was covering up waiting for the punch and Wonka finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanchez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Wonka wants to pass the guard but Sanchez is keeping the position.
Wonka is looking to pass into half guard but Sanchez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Sanchez is in guard.

Wonka is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Wonka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanchez's guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Willy Wonka wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sanchez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wonka sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Sanchez lets loose with a powerful body kick. Wonka will feel that in the morning.
Sanchez keeps Wonka at a distance using the push kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wonka ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Wonka lands a nice shot to the body.
Sanchez lands with a nice body kick.
Sanchez throws a nice looking combination but Wonka bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Diego Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanchez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Sanchez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wonka connects with a looping right hand.

Wonka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sanchez was covering up waiting for the punch and Wonka finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Wonka postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sanchez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wonka, into his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wonka wants to sweep here but Sanchez controlling him for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wonka is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Willy Wonka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Wonka is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sanchez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sanchez is looking to reverse the position.
Wonka fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Wonka is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sanchez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Sanchez lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wonka's sensitive parts.

Sanchez thuds his shin into the meat of Wonka's side.
A jab from Wonka finds it's way through Sanchez's defenses.

Donk. Wonka catches Sanchez right on the button with a cross.

Wonka might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sanchez wants to control but Wonka is keeping busy.
Wonka wants to pass to mount but Sanchez is defending the position.

Wonka thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Wonka is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Wonka prevents Sanchez from improving his position.

Wonka is looking for submissions but instead, Sanchez has regained full guard.
Diego Sanchez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wonka forces his way into half guard.
Wonka seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sanchez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Sanchez is looking for a sweep. Wonka is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sanchez is not content to let Wonka control the position.
Wonka thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sanchez's head.

Sanchez trying to control but Wonka postures up.

Wonka has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Sanchez defend it? Wonka steps over the head and cranks it - Sanchez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Wonka!
