Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Svork Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Steamboat! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steamboat throws a series of punches but Silva avoids them all with ease. Steamboat misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Steamboat scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Svork Silva has been cut. Steamboat shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense. Steamboat throws a combination. Silva tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Silva is trying hard to land a takedown here. Steamboat sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Silva has Steamboat up against the cage in a clinch.
Silva is looking to take this one to the mat. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Steamboat is looking for a takedown. Steamboat prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Svork Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him. Steamboat has Silva pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Silva manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Still in the clinch, Silva scores with a nice short uppercut. Silva turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Silva looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Steamboat knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Steamboat avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Silva. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Silva postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Silva is trying to get an arm triangle but Steamboat is defending well. Silva looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Silva looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Steamboat is pushing Silva's head away, looking to escape. Silva manages to hold on to the position though. Steamboat looks winded!
That's two minutes gone in the round. An elbow from Silva crashes against the mat.
Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Steamboat is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Silva is controlling him well. Steamboat takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Silva throwing shots but missing, from side control. Silva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Silva has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Steamboat is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Silva yanks on the arm and Steamboat is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Silva.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Svork Silva! As Svork Silva got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: Dude was weak.'.
